The 2025 Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX), an AMA National Championship, will hit a crossroads this weekend in Colorado.

The Thunder Valley National, taking place at the mile-high Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood on Friday, June 6, will mark the halfway point of the six-round season. With the alpine site being more than 6,000 feet above sea level, the third race of the summer is expected to be a distinct challenge.

This could result in even more closely contested action at the front of the pack. After the first two rounds, two different riders have emerged victorious.
Lachlan Turner, who rides for Altus Motorsports BLU CRU Yamaha, regained the top spot in the standings with her victory at Hangtown. Despite the sweltering heat, the reigning WMX Champion put on a remarkable 1-1 performance, proving once again why she wears the number one jersey.

Turner was followed into the podium by Mikayla Nielsen of SLR Honda, who won the first round and finished second with 3-2 finishes. Although these two racers have swapped victories overall, Turner’s three victories in the season’s opening four motos have determined who comes out on top in the standings.

Nielsen, who has been just as remarkable with a top-three finish in every moto so far, is now six points behind her. In one of the most picturesque American motocross venues, the next episode in this developing rivalry between two promising 18-year-olds will take place.

American rookie Charli Cannon isn’t far behind the main duo either. After a strong showing in her first two American races, the Quad Lock Honda rider secured her maiden podium finish in Hangtown, placing third overall (2-3). Cannon, the 19-year-old Australian champion, has been impressive with her speed, but the paddock has not yet witnessed her peak performance.
Cannon seemed to be getting better with each gate drop, despite the physical limitations caused by surgery on a broken finger she sustained shortly before the first round.

In Colorado, she hopes to win a moto and close the championship gap with Turner, who now leads by 15 points.
As the championship is ready to take a mid-summer break, a tried-and-true group of racers will also be looking to bring some new twists to the mix.
Last year’s runner-up, Kyleigh Stallings of Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green, was so fast that she was unable to place higher than fifth at Hangtown.
The early season momentum of Jordan Jarvis, the most experienced and accomplished racer in the competition, was halted by a bad afternoon at Hangtown.

However, she will be even more eager to make a huge comeback in Colorado after finishing on the overall podium at the inaugural round. Also, Sophia Phelps of Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Kawasaki and Jamie Astudillo of Pasion MX KTM are both still working on their form this early in the season, so they should give depth to the front half of the field as they keep picking up speed.

On Friday, June 6, the Thunder Valley National will play host to practice, qualifying, and two motos that will decide the champion of Round 3 of the WMX Championship.

At twelve o’clock in the afternoon local time, Moto 1 will begin, and at two o’clock in the afternoon, Moto 2.

In addition to Saturday’s parade lap during opening ceremonies and autograph session at the podium during the interval between motos, the WMX will also be showcased alongside the stars of the Pro Motocross Championship.
