South Carolina’s newly proposed target moves Gamecocks into playoff contention
Mike Furrey, the wide receivers coach for the South Carolina football team, gave in-state pass-catcher Amiri Acker a contract offer on Thursday after Acker did well in camp at the Jerri and Steve Spurrier Indoor Practice Facility. That same day, the graduate of Crescent High School named his top four schools, which included his most recent offer.
Through social media posts, Acker named South Carolina, East Carolina, Liberty, and Cincinnati as the top five teams.
Notably, he eliminated Kentucky, which he was planning to visit this weekend, and he has also planned to visit Liberty next weekend.
While Acker’s speed is important to his game (he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds on Thursday), he is not the same type of speed-first receiver as smaller wideouts signed last year like Lex Cyrus and Jayden Sellers. At 6-1, Acker also brings some size to the table, which helps him make plays on the ball in 50-50 situations.
He also has some life after the catch, using his underrated agility to make would-be tacklers miss.
The Palmetto State native is relatively new to the On3 industry rankings. Following his recent inclusion, Acker is the nation’s No. 974 overall prospect. He’s also No. 157 among all wide receivers and No. 13 in South Carolina
