Coventry City move fast to seal first Premier League transfer under Frank Lampard
Frank Lampard’s Coventry City confirmed their return to the Premier League after a 1-1 draw away at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Friday night.
Attention is now expected to shift towards the summer transfer window, with the Sky Blues preparing to strengthen their squad ahead of top-flight football. However, one incoming deal has already been effectively finalised.
Following their promotion, Coventry are now committed to making Frank Onyeka’s loan move from Brentford permanent. The agreement included an obligation-to-buy clause triggered by promotion, meaning the midfielder will officially join on a full-time basis.

Onyeka arrived from the Bees in February and has since played an important role in Coventry’s successful push back to the Premier League, establishing himself as a key figure in Lampard’s plans.
The Nigerian international is now expected to remain central to the manager’s squad heading into the new season.
Lampard admitted he was overcome with emotion after promotion was secured at Ewood Park, describing the achievement as deeply meaningful for the club and its supporters.
He highlighted the long journey Coventry have endured, from lower-league struggles to their return to the Premier League, and paid tribute to everyone involved over the years, including former boss Mark Robins.
The Coventry manager also praised the travelling fans, saying the moment was made even more special by their unwavering support, calling it a night they would remember for years to come.
