West Brom plot surprise deal for “Unbelievable” talent who’s slipped under the radar
Dele Alli was once widely regarded as a future superstar, expected to become a key figure for England national football team and one of the world’s elite players. However, his career ultimately did not follow that trajectory.
The midfielder enjoyed several outstanding seasons in the Premier League, playing a central role in a Tottenham Hotspur side managed by Mauricio Pochettino. During that period, Spurs mounted two title challenges and reached the UEFA Champions League Final 2019.
Alli’s individual accolades included back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year honours, while he also earned 37 caps for England, scoring three goals.
One of his standout moments came in the 2015/16 season when he claimed the Premier League Goal of the Season for a remarkable strike against Crystal Palace.

Former teammate Harry Kane was among those who believed Alli would reach the very top, highlighting his goal-scoring ability, creativity, and technical skill, while emphasising his significant potential at a young age.
However, as Tottenham declined towards the end of Pochettino’s tenure and transitioned to José Mourinho, Alli’s influence also diminished.
Off the pitch, Alli has faced significant personal challenges. In 2023, during an appearance on The Overlap, he spoke openly about a difficult upbringing and a later struggle with addiction to sleeping tablets, both of which impacted his career.
Now aged 29, Alli has returned to training with Tottenham and is seeking to revive his playing career. Reports indicate that West Bromwich Albion are considering a move for the out-of-contract midfielder, potentially offering him a route back into competitive football if they remain in the EFL Championship.
West Brom currently sit just above the relegation zone following a recent victory over Bristol City, but they are not alone in their interest.
Blackburn Rovers have also made initial enquiries, setting up the possibility of competition for Alli’s signature, with both clubs battling to secure their Championship status.
