Leicester City boss Gary Rowett sends clear message about future amid “tough decisions” claim
Gary Rowett admits Leicester City are now facing some major decisions after their relegation to League One, and hinted that his own time at the club is likely to end this season.
The manager, whose short-term deal runs until the end of the campaign, was speaking after the Foxes’ 2-2 draw with Hull confirmed their drop into the third tier for only the second time in their history. It was a night where victory was essential, but they fell short.
Rowett made it clear that the club’s leadership must now decide on a clear direction moving forward, suggesting he does not expect to be part of those long-term plans. He stressed that what happens next is not his concern, having only been brought in for the final stretch of the season.

When questioned about his future, he avoided making it about himself, acknowledging that many would welcome the challenge of rebuilding the squad with a full transfer window. However, he reiterated that his role was always temporary and that no discussions have taken place about extending his stay.
He emphasised that Leicester’s hierarchy will need time to assess the situation but must ultimately act decisively. According to Rowett, strong and difficult choices are required to steer the club back in the right direction.
Despite the disappointment, he praised the club’s supporters for their passion, noting that their frustration comes from a deep love for the team. Fans made their anger clear throughout the evening, booing the players before kick-off, calling for changes at board level, and continuing protests long after the final whistle.
Rowett said he understands that reaction, pointing out the financial and emotional investment supporters make, especially during a season that has largely failed to meet expectations. He accepted his share of responsibility, admitting the team should have secured more positive results during his time in charge.
While acknowledging the difficulty of the situation, he believes Leicester have the foundations to recover and return stronger. However, he reiterated that the coming weeks will be crucial, with important decisions needed to ensure the club learns from its mistakes and moves forward in a better direction.
