Everything Frank Lampard has said about a potential Chelsea FC return after Liam Rosenior sacking
Frank Lampard has once again been linked with a return to Chelsea FC following the departure of Liam Rosenior, prompting renewed discussion around the club legend’s future.
Despite the growing rumours, Lampard himself has not indicated any intention of heading back to Stamford Bridge for a third spell. Speculation has continued regardless, even though he is currently in charge of Coventry City FC.
Chelsea opted to part ways with Rosenior after a damaging 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion FC, a result that extended their poor run to five straight Premier League games without scoring. Their recent form has been among the worst in the division, with only Tottenham Hotspur FC picking up fewer points over the last nine matches.

The situation has drawn comparisons to when Chelsea dismissed Graham Potter late in the season and turned to Lampard as a caretaker. However, circumstances are different this time, with Lampard now fully committed elsewhere.
He recently guided Coventry to the EFL Championship title and promotion, strengthening his credentials for a return to top-level management. Links with clubs such as AFC Bournemouth have also surfaced, but Lampard has played down such talk, insisting his focus remains solely on finishing the job with Coventry.
Speaking previously, he made it clear he was not entertaining outside speculation, stressing his determination to secure the league title and avoid any sense of unfinished business after a strong campaign.
Former Chelsea figures have also weighed in on the idea of a return. Carlton Cole highlighted Lampard’s deep understanding of the club and suggested he could thrive if properly supported. Similarly, Nicky Butt argued that Lampard’s added experience could make him an even stronger candidate than before.
Ex-defender William Gallas echoed those sentiments, suggesting that while a Stamford Bridge comeback could happen in the future, Lampard’s immediate priority should be building further success with Coventry and gaining more experience at the highest level.
Coventry owner Doug King has also praised Lampard’s impact, noting both his achievements and his apparent happiness at the club. While acknowledging that football can change quickly, King indicated that Lampard remains committed to leading the team into the Premier League and beyond.
For now, although the speculation refuses to go away, Lampard’s stance appears unchanged—his focus is firmly on his current role, even as questions continue to swirl about a possible Chelsea return.
