“Yes, absolutely” – Sheffield United star signals readiness for summer transfer
Sheffield United defender Nils Zätterström is keen to turn his loan spell at Genoa into a permanent move this summer.
The Sweden international progressed through Malmö’s academy before breaking into the senior side in 2024, earning a €3.3m switch to Bramall Lane last August.
However, his arrival coincided with managerial upheaval, as Rubén Sellés—who sanctioned the transfer was replaced by Chris Wilder just weeks later.

Under Wilder, the 20-year-old centre-back struggled to find a role, failing to make a single appearance. Frustrated by the lack of opportunities, he departed in January, joining Genoa on loan with a reported €5.5m option to buy.
His time in Italy has yet to gain momentum, with only a brief substitute appearance against Bologna marking his sole outing so far.
Speaking about his situation, Zätterström pointed to the managerial change as a decisive factor behind his stalled progress at Sheffield United, explaining that the new coach favoured a different system and personnel, leaving him out of contention.
Despite limited game time in Serie A, the defender remains open to extending his stay in Italy beyond the current campaign. He has indicated a willingness to make the move permanent, while acknowledging that discussions will likely depend on developments in the final weeks of the season.
Zätterström also highlighted his appreciation for Italian football, noting its more measured tempo and tactical structure compared to the English game factors that have contributed to his positive experience off the pitch.
Given his lack of involvement under Wilder, a permanent departure appears a practical outcome for both player and club. While the defender is receptive to remaining in Genoa, it remains uncertain whether the Italian side will activate the purchase option at the end of the season.
