The Alabama Crimson Tide have had a lot of big moments on the national stage over the last 25 college football seasons.
It does that when you win six national titles in 12 years, which is what Alabama did from 2009 to 2020 under coach Nick Saban.
Since the start of the 21st century, the LSU Tigers (which Saban helped turn into a constant underachiever) and the Ohio State Buckeyes have tied for second place in terms of hardware.

Each team has three. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that some of the most exciting moments featuring Alabama teams during Saban’s 17 years in Tuscaloosa made ESPN’s list of the top 25 college football plays since 2000.

That includes both the happiness and pain that came from Alabama’s wins and losses.

A total of five plays featuring Alabama football made ESPN’s list. Here’s a breakdown of Alabama’s appearances in ESPN’s top 25 college football plays from the first quarter of the 21st century.

2nd and 26′: Tua Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith touchdown ranked Alabama’s best play

Fans of Alabama can talk about many exciting moments from the snap of the ball until the final whistle, but ESPN put “2nd and 26” against Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 8, 2018, at No. 4 on its list of all-time great moments. Alabama won 26–23 in overtime thanks to Tua Tagovailoa’s dagger pass to DeVonta Smith. It was the school’s fifth title in eight years.
