Leicester City star prepared to quit after relegation as contract termination talks gather pace
Leicester City’s dramatic fall into League One is already triggering major changes behind the scenes, with Patson Daka now increasingly expected to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
The Zambia international has struggled to establish consistency since joining from RB Salzburg in a deal worth around £23m (€27m) back in 2021, but Leicester’s relegation has now completely altered the situation.
Daka is entering the final weeks of his contract, which expires on June 30, and reports in Spain claim he has no plans to sign an extension. That uncertainty has quickly alerted clubs in La Liga.

According to El Sevillista, Sevilla FC are already in negotiations over a possible deal and view the striker as a strong market opportunity given there would be no transfer fee involved.
Valencia CF are also believed to be monitoring the situation closely, potentially setting up competition for his signature over the coming weeks.
Daka’s time at Leicester has never truly clicked despite flashes of the speed and direct attacking style that made him one of Salzburg’s standout forwards. Constant instability at the club has hardly helped his development
During his spell at the King Power Stadium, Leicester went through multiple managerial changes while slipping from Premier League ambitions into a shocking decline through the divisions.
Now, the financial consequences of League One football are expected to force several departures.
Sevilla reportedly believe Daka still offers qualities that remain highly valuable in the modern game. His pace, European experience and ability to stretch defences are viewed as attributes that could add a more direct edge to their attack after several frustrating seasons in front of goal.
Financially, the deal also makes sense for Sevilla, who are being cautious in the transfer market. Landing a free agent would allow them to focus spending on other priority areas.
Still, a move would not come without cost. Signing bonuses, wages and agent fees could still make the operation expensive despite the absence of a transfer fee.
From Leicester’s perspective, that will only deepen frustrations. The Foxes invested heavily in Daka after he scored 68 goals in 125 appearances for Salzburg, expecting him to become a key long-term figure.
Instead, relegation has accelerated uncertainty around the club, leaving Leicester at serious risk of losing him for nothing just a few years later.
At 27, Daka is entering a stage of his career where clubs can still justify offering a long-term contract, especially given his Champions League background and international experience. His pace also remains one of his biggest assets in the transfer market.
For Leicester, though, his likely departure is another sign of how quickly the club’s decline has unfolded. A player signed during their Premier League era now appears ready to walk away for free as the Foxes prepare for life in the third tier.
