“He Never Let Us Down” – Frank Lampard reacts to Coventry summer transfer boost
Frank Lampard has praised the influence of Frank Onyeka at Coventry City, with the Nigerian midfielder now set to complete a permanent move to the Sky Blues.
Onyeka joined Coventry on loan from Brentford at the beginning of February and quickly became an important figure under Lampard, playing a major role in the club’s promotion-winning campaign and Championship title success.
Coventry’s return to the Premier League triggered a clause in the agreement that will turn the move into a permanent transfer this summer.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Lampard said: “Frank has been brilliant. He was exactly the type of player we needed at that stage and he’s come in and delivered everything we were looking for. He’s helped bring balance to the midfield alongside Grimes and the attacking players ahead of them.

“What has also stood out is his humility and work ethic. He arrived from the Premier League as an international player but settled into the dressing room effortlessly and remained incredibly grounded.
“I love seeing that attitude, and it’s a great example for the rest of the squad.”
Coventry City are preparing for life back in the Premier League after sealing promotion in emphatic fashion, ending a 25-year absence from the top flight.
The Coventry Telegraph has released a special commemorative edition celebrating the achievement, featuring detailed coverage of the club’s promotion journey, Lampard’s impact, key moments from the season, and the celebrations that followed the title win.
Onyeka is expected to be the first of several transfer moves this summer as Lampard and Coventry owner Doug King look to strengthen the squad ahead of the challenge of Premier League football.
“There’s a lot of work ahead,” Lampard added. “I know the level well from my experiences as both a player and a manager. The step up is huge and we need to make sure we prepare properly for it.
“The owner wanted everyone at the club to enjoy these last few weeks and celebrate what we’ve achieved, which I completely agree with. But now the focus becomes what we need to do next because the club has progressed very quickly.
“The demands at this level are much greater, so we have to handle the next stage in the right way.”
