14 Goals and Counting – Ligue 1 Striker attracts interest from three top English Clubs

Portsmouth’s push to strengthen their frontline ahead of another Championship campaign has reportedly led them to a prolific scorer currently impressing in Ligue 1.

With two matches still left to play this season, the Blues have been linked with Bamba Dieng, who is enjoying the most productive campaign of his career with FC Lorient.

The Senegal international, capped 21 times, has made 21 league appearances for the Stade du Moustoir outfit, currently sitting ninth in the table. In that time, he has scored 14 goals, making him the club’s leading scorer.

His latest strike came in an eye-catching 2-0 victory over his former side Olympique de Marseille, further underlining his growing reputation.

As his performances continue to turn heads, his market value has also climbed, with estimates placing him around €5.9 million (£5 million). However, there is an added twist Dieng is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, potentially making him an attractive option for interested clubs.

Portsmouth are not alone in tracking the 26-year-old. Reports suggest fellow Championship sides Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, and Oxford United are also monitoring his situation, alongside German outfit FC St. Pauli.

Portsmouth’s attacking struggles

Adding firepower is clearly a priority for Pompey after a disappointing season from their strikers.

Colby Bishop has featured regularly, making 42 appearances in all competitions, but has only managed four goals. Meanwhile, Makenzie Kirk, who joined from St Johnstone last summer, has found the net just once and has recently struggled to even make the matchday squad.

Thomas Waddingham has also endured a difficult campaign, failing to score in five appearances due to injury setbacks.

The lack of depth and competition up front has been a consistent talking point, particularly after the club chose not to reinforce the position during the January window.

As it stands, Adrian Segecic leads the scoring charts for Portsmouth with seven goals a statistic that highlights the need for a more reliable attacking option heading into next season.
