Wrexham finalize first winter signing from league rivals
Wrexham have secured the signing of Zak Vyner from Championship promotion rivals Bristol City for an undisclosed fee, making the defender their first arrival of the winter transfer window. The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that runs until the end of the 2028–29 season, with the option of a further year.

Vyner was omitted from Bristol City’s squad for their 5–0 defeat to Derby County on Friday night and has now completed his move to the Racecourse Ground.
Speaking to Wrexham’s official website, he admitted he was thrilled to get the deal over the line, praising the club’s ambition and rapid rise through the divisions, and saying he is eager to play his part in what is already an impressive project.
The defender believes his experience can help Phil Parkinson’s side continue their push forward. He said he is familiar with several members of the squad and feels his leadership, versatility and lessons learned over the past decade can help raise standards within an already strong group. His contract also includes a one-year extension clause.
Vyner’s arrival follows Conor Coady’s loan move to Charlton Athletic last week, which created space in the squad.
Parkinson explained that Vyner’s expiring contract at Bristol City made the deal possible and described him as a high-quality Championship player capable of operating across the back line and in midfield.
A Bristol City academy graduate, Vyner made his senior debut in February 2016 and went on to make 264 appearances for the club. His career has also included loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle, Rotherham United and Aberdeen. Parkinson confirmed Wrexham had been tracking him for some time, having previously tried to sign him in the summer.
Vyner departs a Bristol City side currently ninth in the Championship, four points behind Wrexham in the race for the final play-off place. He could make his first appearance for the Red Dragons when they host Millwall on February 7.
