West Brom linked with EFL managerial move following reporter’s claim
West Bromwich Albion face a crucial call over their managerial position once the season concludes, with uncertainty still surrounding who will take charge on a permanent basis.
The club are currently being led on an interim basis by James Morrison, who stepped in following the dismissal of Eric Ramsay at The Hawthorns.
Since taking temporary control, Morrison has overseen a positive run, guiding the side to an unbeaten stretch across their last four fixtures as they battle to retain their Championship status.

Amid the ongoing uncertainty, Johnny Drury has suggested that Michael Skubala could emerge as a viable candidate. Speaking on the Express & Star podcast, Drury indicated that West Brom may look towards progressive coaches within the EFL, highlighting the Lincoln City boss as a strong example, while also noting that the club could explore options beyond domestic leagues.
West Brom currently sit 20th in the table after 39 matches, holding a narrow four-point cushion above the relegation zone with seven games remaining. Should Morrison steer the team to safety, he is likely to strengthen his case for the role on a permanent basis.
However, the club are expected to carefully assess all available options rather than rush into a decision, particularly given this is already their third managerial change of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Skubala has attracted attention for his work at Lincoln City, where his side are on course for promotion from League One.
They currently lead the division, sitting above Cardiff City and holding a significant advantage over Bolton Wanderers in third place. Appointed in 2023, the 43-year-old guided Lincoln to an 11th-place finish last season and has since built a strong promotion push.
He has recorded a win rate of 49% across 133 matches at the LNER Stadium. Prior to that, he held coaching roles within Leeds United’s academy setup, managing the U21 side and briefly working with the senior team during Javi Gracia’s tenure.

| Games | Wins | Draws | Losses |
|---|---|---|---|
| 133 | 65 | 32 | 36 |
Looking ahead, West Brom’s hierarchy are expected to weigh multiple managerial profiles before making a final decision. Their immediate priority, however, remains survival.
They return to action on Good Friday with a home fixture against Wrexham, who are pushing for promotion under Phil Parkinson.
That clash is followed by a crucial trip to Blackburn Rovers on Easter Monday, a match that could prove decisive in shaping the outcome at the bottom end of the table.
