The LaNorris Sellers opted to remain in South Carolina despite being offered millions of dollars offer

In this day and age of NIL, the transfer portal, and free transfers, it is common knowledge that college athletics have become heavily influenced by cheating.
On the other hand, news broke on Monday that LaNorris Sellers, the starting quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks, was the target of a significant attempt at tampering. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic cited a statement from Norris Sellers, the star quarterback’s father, in an article about his son’s ascent to college football stardom.
Norris indicated that his son turned down a large transfer offer from the University of South Carolina. “The biggest offer he heard was for $8 million for two years,” Feldman claims. “He was offered all kinds of crazy numbers,” Feldman cited the retired Sellers as saying. “I told him he could say, ‘I’m gonna stay or I’m gonna go.'”
Norris explained. However, in my opinion: Our goal was to play collegiate ball, earn a full athletic scholarship, graduate, and then go our separate ways. Later on, there was this NIL deal.
We are not here for financial gain.
No matter how much the schools try to entice us, we will not leave our current school just because they are offering more than we are receiving in terms of education and athletic education does opportunities. Do not fix it if it is not broken.
The fact that LaNorris Sellers isn’t leaving is the most crucial thing that South Carolina supporters should take away from Feldman’s column. This fall, the gifted quarterback, who is in the running for the Heisman Trophy, will wear garnet and black.
His sole option for leaving the program, it seems, is to advance in his work. After this season, Sellers, who will wear a redshirt as a sophomore this fall, will be eligible to participate in the NFL Draft. The Gamecock standout has been projected as a first-round choice for next April’s draft thus far this offseason.
It would be great for USC if his performance lives up to their expectations. In the 2025 season opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Sellers and South Carolina will face off against Virginia Tech. At 3 o’clock in the afternoon on August 31st, ESPN will air the game.
