Southampton lined up for 87-cap international striker with £7m Adam Armstrong exit looming
Southampton are bracing themselves for a frantic end to the winter transfer window, with Canada international striker Cyle Larin emerging as a potential target.
Life back in the Championship has been far from straightforward for the Saints following last season’s Premier League relegation, with the club currently stuck in the bottom half of the table.

A turbulent campaign has seen Will Still depart midway through the first half of the season, with under-21s boss Tonda Eckert stepping up. Although his early spell brought promise, results dipped after his permanent appointment, but recent form has improved, with seven points taken from the last three games.
Sitting seven points adrift of the play-off places, Southampton are now believed to be in discussions over a move for Larin in a bid to reignite their promotion push, a situation seemingly linked to Adam Armstrong’s expected departure.
Reports from The Sun’s Jack Rosser claim talks are ongoing to bring Larin to St Mary’s before Monday’s deadline. The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Feyenoord, though the Dutch side are expected to cut that deal short to allow him to move on. Larin has made limited appearances in the Eredivisie this season, while also featuring in the Europa League, scoring once across all competitions.
His parent club Real Mallorca are battling relegation in La Liga, and Larin has found opportunities hard to come by there due to Vedat Muriqi’s strong form.
Despite that, he brings plenty of experience, having played European football with Besiktas and Club Brugge, while earning 87 caps for Canada and scoring 30 international goals.
With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, which Canada will co-host, Larin is keen for regular football in the second half of the season — something Southampton could offer.
The Saints’ interest comes amid a wider reshuffle in attack. Armstrong is reportedly closing in on a £7m move to Wolves, a development that has ended Cameron Archer’s anticipated switch to Rangers. Archer now looks set to remain at St Mary’s and could compete with Larin, should he arrive, alongside Ross Stewart for a place up front.
