Ryan Grubb, offensive coordinator & four others are Alabama’s most important coaches for the year 2025

The effects of each member of the Alabama football coaching staff could change from one season to the next, but they are all vital.

As an example, it’s possible that one set of positions needs extra attention and training throughout certain seasons.
There may be different seasons where a different group of position holders is more naive and needs more direction.

Alternatively, a whole football team requires a change. If the Crimson Tide want to win a title in 2025, these five assistant coaches will be key cogs in the wheel.

1. Ryan Grubb, offensive coordinator

Last year, Alabama’s offense couldn’t maintain a high level of performance. Grubb is responsible for fixing it, but the play caller isn’t entirely responsible.

Grubb should be fine with that as he oversaw some of the top offenses in college football at Washington before his one season in the NFL.

On offense, Grubb’s teams were perennial powerhouses, finishing in the top two in passing yards per game and the top fifteen overall in scoring.
On the field, he must live up to his status as Alabama’s most significant offseason acquisition.

2. Nick Sheridan, co-OC/quarterbacks

He may not be in charge of calling plays anymore, but in 2025, he remains the most crucial player who isn’t a coordinator. Sheridan is responsible for developing the quarterback of the future; currently, Ty Simpson is in the driver’s seat.
Additionally, Sheridan is tasked with nurturing the room’s youthful talent, namely Keelon Russell and Austin Mack.

This season, the quarterback from Michigan will play a pivotal role.

3. Christian Robinson, outside linebackers

Alabama needs more pass rush from its defense. That falls on more than the outside linebackers, but they’re a key piece.
Robinson, a rising star in the business, will be the one responsible for helping guys such as Qua Russaw, Jah-Marien Latham and more take the next step.

4. Maurice Linguist, co-DC/defensive backs

Cornerback and safety might be two of the best positions on the roster this season.

Why include Linguist on this list? Well, he’s overseeing all of it, and that means deciding whom to play where and when.

Alabama has a handful of playing-time-worthy defensive backs.

How does Linguist manage the list of players that includes Domani Jackson, Zabien Brown, Keon Sabb, Bray Hubbard, DaShawn Jones, Zavier Mincey, Dijon Lee, Cam Calhoun and more? Linguist probably can’t go wrong, but he has decisions to make nonetheless.

5. Kane Wommack, defensive coordinator

The defense has a chance to be elite. It ended the first season under Wommack as a top-10 scoring defense. Then, most of the defense returned in 2025. That brings top-five expectations. It’s up to Wommack to get the defense there. A stout defense would go a long way toward helping whoever starts at quarterback.
