Report on Grizzlies-Trail Blazers Trade Emerges Following Zach Edey Announcement

The Memphis Grizzlies have formally turned their attention to the upcoming offseason and whatever the future holds following their postseason first-round loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
During the summer, the Grizzlies will need to make a number of important decisions. Grizzlies PR on X reports that big player Zach Edey had ankle surgery and will be re-evaluated in four months, increasing the likelihood that he would miss the start of the 2025–26 NBA season.

This news comes as a blow to the team’s already slim playoff hopes.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Edey’s availability for next season, Memphis might need to strengthen its roster to compensate for his possible absence.

The Grizzlies may have found their reinforcements in a story that surfaced on Friday involving the Portland Trail Blazers and the Grizzlies.
As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the Grizzlies will be a team to keep an eye on as they seek to reassert themselves as title contenders and return to the summit of the Western Conference.
Who they end up pursuing is anyone’s guess, although rumors have it that they’re interested in Deni Avdija, a forward with the Trail Blazers

This 24-year-old “has emerged as a trade target” for Memphis, per Dodson. Dodson adds, though, that no settlement is close at hand. Multiple conversations with league sources have revealed that the Grizzlies have emerged as a trade target for Deni Avdija of the Portland Trail Blazers. It is known, however, that no deal is close. Avdija shot 47.6% from the field and 36.5% from outside the arc in his first season with the Trail Blazers, while averaging 16.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1 steal. Memphis could use someone with Avdija’s skill set.

If the Grizzlies are able to acquire him in a trade, they will have greater freedom to rotate Jaren Jackson Jr. into the starting lineup more frequently during Edey’s absence.

Avdija might be an excellent trade target for the Grizzlies, despite his unassuming name. Since nothing is official at this time, it will be interesting to keep an eye on this during the summer.
