On June 13, 2025 It seemed unbelievable that the South Carolina softball team could be ranked in the top ten when they were projected to finish last in the SEC.

However, the final season rankings have been revealed, and the Gamecocks are ranked tenth by ESPN.comUSA Softball. The Gamecock program has never before achieved such a high final ranking.

South Carolina is ranked twelveth in the final top twenty-five by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, among other sources. Carolina was ranked fourteenth in the most recent final rankings released by Softball America, while D1Softball.com had the Gamecocks at thirteenth.

South Carolina’s new head coach, Ashley Chastain Woodard, a former Gamecock pitcher who coached for five years in Charlotte before coming back to Columbia, had an eventful first season.

The Gamecocks’ 44-17 record is the best by a first-year head softball coach at USC. After leading the Gamecocks to a top-eight national seed and the inaugural Super Regional at Carolina Softball Stadium’s Beckham Field, Chastain Woodard was proclaimed national coach of the year by D1Softball.com.
To continue building on 2025’s success, South Carolina’s head coach is currently using the transfer portal to bolster her 2026 roster.
