‎Ex-Manchester United star exits Championship club following five-minute appearance

Former Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has left Hull City halfway through his one-year deal, bringing his brief spell with the Championship club to an early end.

Williams joined the Tigers last summer after spending a year out of the game, with the move seen as a chance to revive his career.

However, his time at the MKM Stadium failed to gain momentum, with the full-back managing just five minutes of first-team action.

That lone appearance came as a late substitute during a 3-0 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers in August. Beyond that cameo, Williams was named in only four more matchday squads, the last of which was on November 25.

talkSPORT reports that Hull paid up the remainder of his contract to facilitate his departure after six months, with injuries and past issues hampering his progress. The club confirmed the decision in a statement on Tuesday, announcing that the 25-year-old had left by mutual consent and wishing him well for the future.

Williams is now a free agent and will be assessing his next move. Prior to joining Hull, he had loan spells with Norwich City and Ipswich Town, and he spent 16 years at Manchester United before leaving the club in 2024.

His career has been overshadowed by off-field problems in recent years. In 2024, Williams received a suspended 14-month prison sentence after admitting to dangerous driving and driving without insurance following a crash in 2023, when he was found to be travelling at 99mph in a 70mph zone.

He is currently serving a three-year driving ban, with the prison sentence suspended for two years.

The Carrington graduate has since spoken openly about his struggles, including admitting he had fallen out of love with football.

There had already been indications that his Hull stay could be cut short, with head coach Sergej Jakirovic suggesting in December that a decision would be made over whether Williams had shown enough to compete regularly at Championship level.
