Blackburn Rovers hit with fresh injury blow as Lewis Miller update emerges

Blackburn Rovers have announced that Lewis Miller has undergone surgery after rupturing his Achilles, ruling him out for the next nine months.

The defender was carried off on a stretcher during the 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers, with early concerns over the severity of the injury ultimately confirmed. As a result, Miller will not feature again for Rovers this season.

The setback also means the Australia international will miss this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico a devastating outcome for a player who had openly shared his excitement about representing his country on the global stage.

Rovers revealed that the operation took place on Monday evening and was performed by what they described as a “world-leading foot and ankle surgeon”. Miller now begins a lengthy rehabilitation process, targeting a return towards the end of 2026.

Posting on Instagram, Miller wrote: “Simply no words. Cruel world we live in.

“You best believe I’ll be back better than before, that’s a promise.”

It marks another setback in a season heavily disrupted by injuries for Blackburn. Miller is now set for the longest spell on the sidelines, although several others remain unavailable.

Todd Cantwell is expected to miss Friday night’s fixture due to a foot problem, while Aynsley Pears, Augustus Kargbo, Scott Wharton, Sidnei Tavares and Matty Litherland are also sidelined. Kargbo and Wharton, however, have returned to training following extended absences.
