Norwich and Swansea locked in transfer war for League One’s top-rated striker
Norwich City and Swansea City are set to go head-to-head this summer in pursuit of Dom Ballard, after the Leyton Orient striker scooped League One Player of the Season honours.
Ballard emerged as a rare bright spark in a difficult campaign for Orient, whose manager Richie Wellens did not hold back in his criticism following a tense final-day draw with Burton Albion that secured survival.
Despite his frustration with much of the squad, Wellens singled out Ballard as a player he is eager to keep beyond the transfer window.

The 21-year-old forward also picked up the Young Player of the Season award, underlining his importance to the O’s as they avoided relegation. His tally of 23 goals and five assists in 40 appearances proved decisive, earning him a place in the League One Team of the Season.
Unsurprisingly, interest is mounting from the Championship, with Norwich and Swansea joined by Wrexham in tracking the prolific striker. Wellens has even described Ballard as “scary”, a reflection of the impact he has made and the potential he possesses to step up a level.
Elsewhere, end-of-season accolades across the Championship sparked debate. Zan Vipotnik’s 23-goal haul for Swansea City saw him claim the Golden Boot, though Hayden Hackney of Middlesbrough was named Player of the Season.
Jordan James earned Young Player of the Season recognition despite Leicester City’s relegation, while Frank Lampard took Manager of the Season honours after leading Coventry City to promotion.
Norwich, under Philippe Clement, finished the campaign strongly but narrowly missed out on the play-offs, and will now look to strengthen as they target a return to the Premier League.
