Confirmed: Sheffield Wednesday midfielder departs with heartfelt farewell
Rio Shipston has officially brought his long association with Sheffield Wednesday to an end, confirming his departure after earlier reports suggested he would leave once his contract expired.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who has been with the club since his youth, shared a brief message on Instagram to mark the moment, expressing gratitude to those he worked with during his time at Middlewood Road and wishing them well for the future.

Having progressed through the ranks and featured around the first-team setup, Shipston made 13 senior appearances for his boyhood side. He also gained valuable experience last season during a loan spell at Cork City, where his performances attracted attention.
Following his announcement, several teammates and fellow academy graduates took to social media to send their best wishes as he prepares for the next chapter of his career.
Now a free agent, Shipston will be aiming to secure a new opportunity in the summer, with many connected to Wednesday hopeful he can go on to achieve success elsewhere.
