Wolves enter battle with Stoke City for highly rated attacker

Wolverhampton Wanderers are already planning for life back in the Championship after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

The Old Gold’s eight-year stay in the top flight has come to an end, with their fate sealed well before the campaign’s conclusion. Rob Edwards, appointed in November following a disastrous opening to the season, was unable to inspire a turnaround.

Attention is now shifting towards the summer transfer window as Wolves begin rebuilding for an immediate push back to the Premier League. Several departures are expected at Molineux, but there could also be significant movement in the opposite direction as Edwards reshapes his squad.

Before then, Wolves still have four league fixtures remaining, with pride and the chance to climb off the foot of the table still at stake.

One player now emerging on their radar is Torino youngster Alieu Njie. According to reports from Italian outlet La Stampa, relayed by Sport Witness, Wolves are interested in bringing the Swedish forward to England this summer.

However, they are not alone in the race. Stoke City are also monitoring the 20-year-old as they prepare for what they hope will be a promotion challenge next season.

Despite being tied to Torino until 2029, Njie is reportedly no longer viewed as an important part of Roberto D’Aversa’s plans. The attacker progressed through Torino’s academy system but has struggled to establish himself as a regular since stepping into the senior side.

Njie featured 16 times in Serie A last season, although every appearance came from the bench. This year, he has managed just one start across 11 league outings as Torino sit 13th with four matches left to play.

Across his senior appearances for the Turin club, the forward has registered two goals and one assist, but reports in Italy suggest his style does not align with D’Aversa’s tactical approach.

That situation could hand both Wolves and Stoke an intriguing market opportunity heading into the summer. Wolves, in particular, are expected to strengthen their attack amid the likelihood of several exits, while Stoke are also eager to add more quality to their frontline after an underwhelming campaign that sees them sitting 17th ahead of the final day clash with Bristol City.

Although there are no guarantees Njie would become an instant success in the Championship, his experience in Serie A at such a young age makes him an interesting option. At only 20 years old, there is still significant room for development, and both clubs may believe the second tier could provide the perfect environment for him to flourish.
