Rangers appear to have won the race to land Queen’s Park youngster Harris Afzal after reaching an agreement
Queen’s Park youngster Harris Afzal is closing in on a move away from the club after attracting strong interest from Rangers, Celtic and Crystal Palace.
Rangers have consistently monitored emerging talent across the UK, often positioning themselves as an appealing destination due to the clearer pathway they can offer into senior football compared to Premier League sides.
That approach has already proven effective, with Ashton Scally expected to remain at Ibrox despite attention from Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
However, Afzal now looks increasingly likely to head south. Reports from TEAMtalk indicate the 16-year-old has agreed personal terms with both Crystal Palace and Southampton, leaving him with a decision to make over his next destination.

The highly-rated left-back has impressed during his time at Queen’s Park, drawing attention from multiple clubs. While Rangers and Celtic have tracked his progress in Scotland, Crystal Palace and Southampton have emerged as the leading contenders for his signature.
Although Palace appear to be in a strong position, Southampton are still actively pursuing a deal and remain firmly in contention.
Queen’s Park are prepared to sell the teenager for a fee in the region of £40,000, provided a sell-on clause is included conditions that are considered acceptable by both English clubs. The final outcome now hinges on which side can complete the deal.
Afzal is regarded as one of Scotland’s brightest young prospects, with Rangers having closely followed his development through their scouting network. He has been tipped for a big future in the game and has even drawn comparisons to Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson due to his athleticism and attacking threat from wide areas.
Had he remained in Scotland, Afzal was seen as a player capable of breaking into regular first-team football within the next few years. But with Crystal Palace and Southampton currently leading the race, Rangers may now be forced to explore alternative targets.
