Wrexham plot ambitious move for “dynamite” £7.5m striker as Leeds open door to exit

Wrexham are targeting a Premier League-based forward as part of their summer plans, contingent on securing promotion to the top flight.

With the season entering its ending phase, the Red Dragons remain firmly in contention after a 2-1 win at Sheffield United. Phil Parkinson’s side sit seventh in the Championship, narrowly outside the play-off places on goal difference, and are still in a strong position to complete a remarkable fourth consecutive promotion.

However, stepping up to the Premier League would present a significant challenge. The struggles of established clubs this season have highlighted the league’s intensity, meaning Wrexham will need to reinforce their squad if they are to compete effectively.

Recruitment planning is already underway, with Fulham’s Harry Wilson and Tottenham youngster Will Lankshear among the names under consideration. Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph has also emerged as a potential option.

According to reports, Wrexham are monitoring Joseph’s situation ahead of the summer window. The 22-year-old, currently on loan at Mallorca, is expected to leave Elland Road, with Leeds now prepared to accept a fee in the region of £7.5m—significantly lower than their previous valuation.

Joseph has been praised for his movement and finishing ability, but his overall output raises concerns. He has registered six goals and four assists in 73 appearances for Leeds, while his loan spell in Spain has yielded just two La Liga goals this season.

Given those numbers, pursuing the Spaniard would carry a degree of risk. By contrast, Lankshear has delivered more consistently in front of goal during his loan at Oxford United, suggesting he may represent a more reliable attacking option for Wrexham heading into a potential Premier League campaign.
