Ryan Reynolds and Sky Sports criticised as Wrexham rivals file formal complaint over coverage
Sky Sports has come under criticism over claims that its coverage disproportionately favoured Wrexham AFC, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Swansea City chief executive Tom Gorringe has publicly expressed concerns about the broadcaster’s handling of last week’s televised clash at the Racecourse Ground, where Wrexham recorded a 2-0 victory.
Viewers were offered an alternative commentary option featuring Reynolds and McElhenney, a decision that has drawn scrutiny from Swansea’s hierarchy.

Senior figures at Swansea were reportedly unhappy with the level of attention given to their opponents both before and during the match. Gorringe has since confirmed that he intends to raise the matter with the English Football League.
In programme notes ahead of the club’s upcoming fixture against Coventry City, Gorringe stressed the importance of impartiality in broadcasting. While acknowledging the need to enhance the league’s profile, he argued that coverage must remain balanced.
He also questioned the production approach, noting that the involvement of the Wrexham owners’ media company appeared to result in a strong emphasis on the home side, with guest appearances and promotional material largely centred around them. According to Gorringe, Swansea felt marginalised throughout the broadcast and in pre-match promotion.
The issue is set to be formally discussed with the EFL in the coming days.
On the pitch, Wrexham secured the win through goals from Nathan Broadhead and an own goal by Liam Cullen late on. The result leaves Wrexham level on points with Southampton FC in the race for a play-off position, separated only by goal difference.
