Derby County star hit with major injury setback as manager confirms it’s a “serious” issue
Bolton Wanderers have been hit with a major setback after Corey Blackett-Taylor picked up an injury during their clash with Rotherham United.
The winger is now expected to return to Derby County after sustaining what has been described as a “serious” thigh issue while on loan. He was forced off just 21 minutes into the League One fixture after pulling up shortly after taking a shot.
Subsequent scans have confirmed the injury is not a minor one, with manager Steven Schumacher admitting the recovery process is unlikely to be straightforward or quick. A specialist assessment is now anticipated, and there remains uncertainty over whether Blackett-Taylor will feature again before the end of the season.

Schumacher acknowledged the severity of the setback, explaining that the strain is located high on the tendon and will require careful management, with a clearer timeline yet to be established as discussions continue with Derby County over the next steps.
The injury represents another frustrating chapter in what has been a stop-start campaign for the winger. After an encouraging pre-season, he suffered a hamstring problem on the opening day against Stoke City, keeping him sidelined until October.
A loan move to Bolton offered a chance to rebuild momentum, and he made an immediate impression, scoring on his debut against Wimbledon before netting a standout winner in a recent victory over Wycombe. His performances had suggested he was beginning to find rhythm again.
Schumacher admitted the loss is significant given the impact Blackett-Taylor had made, but also pointed to the player’s explosive style and injury history as contributing factors.
Despite efforts to carefully manage his workload, the latest setback underlines the challenges that have limited his consistency, even as he showed promising form during his time at the club.
