Wrexham overcame sustained second-half pressure from Ipswich Town to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup, earning a significant financial reward in the process.

The Red Dragons edged past their Championship opponents 1-0 at the Racecourse Ground, with Josh Windass scoring the decisive goal in the 34th minute.

Although Wrexham registered more shots on target and won more corners, Ipswich pushed hard after the break. A resolute defensive display ensured the hosts held firm to secure progression.

The victory brings a £127,000 prize for reaching the fifth round, adding to the £121,500 they collected for their dramatic penalty shootout win over Nottingham Forest in the previous round. Altogether, Wrexham have banked £248,500 from this season’s FA Cup campaign so far.

Beyond the financial boost, the achievement marks the club’s first appearance in the fifth round since the 1996/97 season, when they went on to reach the quarter-finals.

Manager Phil Parkinson expressed his delight after the match, emphasising the importance of building on their earlier win and marking a special milestone for owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in their fifth year at the club.

Despite the excitement surrounding the cup run, Parkinson stressed the need to refocus on league matters, while making it clear that the team is hungry for even more memorable nights at the Racecourse.
