‎Millwall complete medical checks for two signings, a £10m Premier League player and promotion hero

Millwall are closing in on the confirmation of two Premier League loan signings as they look to strengthen before Monday night’s transfer deadline.

The Lions are expected to finalise both deals ahead of the 7pm cut-off, having drawn 1-1 with Sheffield United at The Den on Saturday.

Andre Brooks’ opener was quickly cancelled out by Mihailo Ivanovic, a result that keeps Millwall fifth in the table and five points clear of Derby County in seventh, ahead of a crucial clash with sixth-placed Wrexham next weekend.

One of the incoming players is Brighton winger Tommy Watson, who is set to arrive on loan. The 19-year-old has featured three times in the Premier League this season but made his name last year during a successful promotion campaign with Sunderland, where he scored three goals in 22 league appearances before completing a £10million move to Brighton in the summer.

With regular top-flight minutes limited, Watson is expected to link up with Millwall to aid their play-off push and continue his development in familiar Championship surroundings.

Sky Sports report that Watson’s loan move has been fully agreed and that he has already completed his medical. Millwall are also set to bring in Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson on loan, with the 24-year-old completing his medical on Saturday night.

Patterson boasts significant experience, having made 153 league appearances for the Black Cats and playing 45 of their 46 Championship matches during last season’s promotion-winning campaign, before losing his place following their step up to the Premier League.

Alex Neil will be hoping the two additions provide a timely boost as Millwall aim to turn their strong league position into a successful play-off finish.

Reflecting on Saturday’s draw, Neil admitted the contest unfolded much as he had anticipated. He described it as a tight, physical encounter between two sides capable of hurting each other on the break, expressing frustration that Millwall failed to capitalise on early chances before conceding.

While pleased with aspects of his side’s play, particularly down the right flank, Neil felt a lack of quality in the final third ultimately prevented his team from taking all three points in a game that ebbed and flowed throughout.
