“To be honest” – Birmingham City boss Chris Davies makes surprise worried confession
Following another disappointing defeat, Chris Davies addressed growing uncertainty surrounding his future at Birmingham City, delivering a notably candid and concerning assessment.
The loss to Derby County was described by Davies as a reflection of the club’s broader struggles this season. Despite securing promotion to the EFL Championship last year, expectations were elevated after significant investment, including the arrival of Kyogo Furuhashi.
However, a run of just one win in five matches has left Birmingham 10 points off the playoff positions, effectively ending their top-six ambitions.

Speaking after the match, Davies admitted both the performance and result were unacceptable, acknowledging that his side lacked the necessary intensity and attacking threat, particularly in away fixtures.
He accepted responsibility for failing to instill the required mentality, describing the defeat as especially damaging given its importance to their season.
Attention is increasingly turning toward recruitment decisions, with signings such as Kyogo struggling to make the expected impact, while Jay Stansfield has yet to replicate his previous form at Championship level. Nonetheless, the manager himself appears to be under the most scrutiny.
In a frank admission, Davies revealed that concerns over his position have been constant since his appointment. He noted that even during their time in EFL League One, anything short of consistent victories would bring pressure, a reality that has only intensified following promotion.
While many newly promoted sides would view a mid-table position as progress, expectations at Birmingham remain considerably higher.
With ownership led by Tom Wagner targeting long-term Premier League ambitions, Davies’ future may ultimately hinge on whether he is still considered the right figure to lead the project forward.
