‎Norwich City set to part ways with 23-year-old talent this summer

Norwich City are set to weigh up their options regarding Tony Springett when the summer transfer window opens, with the winger’s contract due to expire at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old’s future at Carrow Road remains uncertain. The Canaries do hold a 12-month option that would keep him at the club until June 2027, but a final decision has yet to be made. Springett has featured 15 times in all competitions this term — 14 of those in the Championship — scoring once.

While he offers additional depth and competition in the attacking areas for head coach Philippe Clement, he has not established himself as a regular starter. As a result, a summer departure in search of more consistent game time would not come as a major surprise.

Norwich have enjoyed a resurgence since Clement’s appointment in November following Liam Manning’s dismissal. The former Rangers boss has steadied the ship and guided the club clear of relegation trouble, lifting them up the table with improved performances.

With Springett entering the final months of his deal, the club may choose to trigger the extension clause to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Doing so could allow them to command a fee later in the window, particularly if they decide his long-term prospects lie elsewhere. At this stage of his career, regular football — rather than brief substitute appearances — is likely to be crucial for his development.

A product of Norwich’s academy system, Springett has spent his entire career with the club, progressing through the youth ranks before making 33 senior appearances. He has also gained experience through loan spells at Derby County and Northampton Town to aid his growth.

With Norwich well stocked in wide areas, the coming months will be pivotal in determining his next step. Meanwhile, the Canaries will look to maintain their momentum after a 2-0 win at Leicester City, where Anis Ben Slimane and Ali Ahmed were on target. Their focus now turns to an FA Cup trip to Leeds United this weekend.
