Mark Pope in tears as Kentucky’s star made his career announcement
At the end of last season’s basketball season, the Kentucky Wildcats were defeated by their rivals, the Tennessee Volunteers.
Out of three encounters with the Volunteers, this was their sole loss.
Because of their top-tier NIL collective, Kentucky is in a prime position to improve their squad through the transfer portal, which is exactly what new head coach Mark Pope set out to do after that loss.
Expected to go in the top ten of the NBA Draft next year, former Kentucky pledge and Pope’s first major acquisition from the portal was Jayden Quaintance.
Kentucky has long been a popular place for us. He was already there when John Calipari departed for Arkansas, which led to our arrival at Arizona State.

Every time we thought he was out, we hoped they’d come back for more. “Coach Pope’s decision to challenge one of Cal’s players last time was illogical, but this time it seemed like he wanted him there,” his father told ESPN.
The robust NIL assistance in Kentucky is a key component of their portal’s success.
That is really significant in the current state of collegiate basketball.
Not even BYU, in Jeff Goodman’s opinion, will be able to touch Kentucky’s zero salary this season.
But when Otega Oweh said he was coming back, it all came together. When Oweh broke the news to Pope Francis, he showed his emotional reaction.
I broke down in tears as I thought the pilot was going to boot me out of the plane. That is truly remarkable, man.
I could feel your enthusiasm and understand how badly you wanted to play in that league. Hey there, we’re back now. According to Pope, he was really enthusiastic until he learned about the conditioning tests.
Last year, Oweh finally found his stride, becoming one of Kentucky’s primary weapons. His goals for the Wildcats this season include contributing to the team’s success and furthering his own personal growth.
Their close relationship is obviously very important to Pope and Oweh, and Pope is well aware of how important Oweh is to the program.
