Leicester City in discussions with world-class manager about possible move

In a development that would excite large sections of the Blue Army while also raising eyebrows, Leicester City are said to have opened exploratory discussions with former boss Enzo Maresca over a dramatic return to the King Power Stadium.

Although his first spell in the East Midlands was short-lived, it left a lasting impression and is widely viewed as transformative.

Handed the reins in June 2023 after relegation from the Premier League, the ex-Manchester City coach introduced a bold, possession-based style that quickly set Leicester apart in the Championship. The approach paid off spectacularly, with the Foxes storming back to the top flight at the first attempt, lifting the title in record-breaking fashion as Maresca collected four Manager of the Month awards along the way.

That goodwill was tested when Maresca departed for Chelsea in the summer of 2024, a decision that Leicester’s hierarchy publicly admitted left them “disappointed”.

His time at Stamford Bridge began promisingly, highlighted by UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs, before tensions with the board culminated in his departure on New Year’s Day 2026.

Now, with Leicester stuck in the lower reaches of the Championship under interim boss Andy King, the idea of a reunion carries an almost poetic appeal. Even so, it remains a long shot.

Maresca is believed to be eyeing elite opportunities in Italy or Spain, or even a future return to Manchester City once Pep Guardiola steps aside. Leicester’s current financial situation also makes a long-term deal difficult, though a short-term arrangement has not been ruled out.

Reports suggest the club are in something close to crisis mode. According to Sports Boom, Leicester’s hierarchy have held discreet talks with Maresca in what has been described as a bid to halt a season that is “spiralling out of control”.

Despite the obvious hurdles, senior figures at the King Power reportedly see their former manager as a ready-made fix to arrest the slide and restore direction.
