Korpisalo Blows the Lid Off Bruins’ Chaos: ‘This Team’s Leadership Doesn’t Care About

Boston Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo has launched a bombshell critique of the franchise, accusing ownership and management of prioritizing profit over progress in a fiery rant that has rocked the NHL. The 30-year-old netminder, acquired in a March trade to bolster Boston’s playoff push, unloaded on team brass Thursday, calling the organization “stagnant” and “delusional” after a disastrous second-round playoff exit.

“Nothing changes here because the people in charge don’t want it to,” Korpisalo fumed during an unprompted locker-room interview. “They’re content selling nostalgia [from the 2011 Cup era] while the rest of the league evolves. It’s embarrassing.” The outburst comes weeks after the Bruins squandered a 3-1 series lead against Florida, with Korpisalo posting a dismal .863 save percentage in the collapse.

Sources say tensions erupted during an end-of-season meeting where GM Don Sweeney defended the team’s veteran-heavy roster strategy. “I was told to ‘focus on stopping pucks’ when I raised concerns about our system,” Korpisalo said. “Well, maybe if we had a GM who stopped clinging to 2013, we’d actually win something.”

The Bruins’ front office fired back, with Sweeney calling the remarks “unprofessional” and CEO Charlie Jacobs insisting the organization “remains committed to excellence.” But Korpisalo’s critique resonates with fans: Boston has not drafted a full-time NHL goalie since 2012 and ranks 28th in prospect development under Sweeney, per *The Athletic*.

Korpisalo’s stats further fuel the fire. After signing a 4-year, $16M deal with Ottawa last summer, he was traded to Boston mid-season and struggled, finishing with a career-worst .890 save percentage. Critics argue the Bruins’ shaky defense worsened his performance, but Korpisalo’s public grenade-throwing has alienated teammates. Captain Brad Marchand tersely said, “We handle issues internally,” while linemate David Pastrnak avoided reporters entirely.

Trade rumors now swirl, with ESPN’s Kevin Weekes linking Korpisalo to cap-strapped teams like Edmonton or a reunion with Ottawa. “Boston can’t keep him after this,” said NBC Sports analyst Mike Milbury. “He’s burnt every bridge.”

For a franchise already reeling from the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejčí, Korpisalo’s explosion exposes deeper rot. As one league exec texted: “Boston’s window closed years ago. Now everyone

knows it.”
