Gary Rowett delivers concerning injury update on key Leicester star

Gary Rowett has delivered a concerning injury update regarding one Leicester City player as the Foxes approach the decisive stage of the Championship season.

Many Leicester City supporters who have followed the club primarily during spells in the Championship and League One may not immediately recall the last time the Foxes dropped into the third tier.

It has been close to 20 years since the East Midlands side last competed in League One, when they secured an immediate return by winning the title in the 2008–09 campaign, with figures such as Matty Fryatt playing key roles in that promotion success.

However, the current situation paints a far less encouraging picture. Leicester are currently in the relegation zone in the Championship with only ten league fixtures remaining, raising the possibility of an unwanted return to League One.

Rowett’s side have also been hampered by a growing injury list in recent weeks. Six first-team players were unavailable for the recent 1–1 draw away to Ipswich Town, highlighting the squad issues the interim boss has been dealing with.

Unfortunately for Leicester, the situation may not be improving any time soon. Rowett has now suggested that another key player could be facing time on the sidelines after picking up a knock.

The interim manager is already aware of the magnitude of the task in front of him, having failed to record a win in his first four matches in charge. To make matters more difficult, he has rarely had a settled squad available due to injuries.

Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has been absent, forcing Jakub Stolarczyk to start in the draw at Ipswich, while other players including Victor Kristiansen and Aaron Ramsey have also been unavailable.

The injury concerns could now extend to Jeremy Monga, who appears to have picked up a knock ahead of Leicester’s upcoming clash with Bristol City.

Despite being only 16 years old, Monga has been one of the few bright spots in Leicester’s difficult campaign. The youngster has recorded one goal and two assists in league action this season, showing flashes of quality that have stood out during a challenging year for the club.

Highly regarded by observers and even described as a “generational talent” by journalist Graeme Bailey, the teenager has reportedly attracted interest from several Premier League sides.

His energy and fearless style would have made him an appealing option for Rowett heading into the upcoming fixture, but the latest update suggests the young forward could miss out entirely due to injury.

While Leicester will naturally want to benefit from Monga’s talent, there is also a need to manage the youngster carefully at such an early stage of his career. As a result, the club may opt to take a cautious approach and keep him out of the squad against Gerhard Struber’s Bristol City side.

That would represent another setback for Rowett as he continues his search for a first victory as Leicester’s interim manager.
