Chris Wilder reveals Patrick Bamford’s injury timeframe at Sheffield United—and it’s worrying
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has revealed that Patrick Bamford could be sidelined for up to three weeks after suffering an injury in training.
The striker missed the Blades’ 3-1 win over Oxford United on Tuesday night, with Wilder’s side managing to cope without one of their most influential attacking players.

Despite falling behind early to Myles Peart-Harris’ opener, Sheffield United responded well, with Sydie Peck equalising before half-time and second-half goals from Andre Brooks and Chiedozie Ogbene sealing a comfortable victory.
Bamford’s absence was noticeable given the impact he has made since joining the club, providing a focal point in attack and contributing six goals in 13 appearances. Concerns had already been raised after the 32-year-old was left out of consecutive matchday squads, and Wilder has now confirmed the issue stems from a training-ground knock.
Speaking to the BBC, Wilder explained that the injury occurred during a competitive session and admitted it was an untimely setback, estimating that Bamford could be unavailable for two to three weeks.
He also highlighted how his presence allows the team to play more directly, something they were unable to lean on against Oxford.
While losing Bamford for any length of time is a blow, the win over the U’s offered some relief, moving Sheffield United seven points clear of the relegation zone on 39 points.
The performance also showed the squad’s depth, with Tom Cannon starting up front and Tyrese Campbell and Danny Ings available from the bench.
Goals coming from across the team will be key if the Blades are to maintain momentum and push up the table. Attention now turns to a testing Championship clash against Middlesbrough next Monday, a match that could provide a clearer indication of Sheffield United’s promotion ambitions.
