After being released from Green Bay, Saints could be showing interested in signing star cornerback Jaire Alexander

After seven years with the club, the Green Bay Packers have decided to release All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander, putting him firmly on the market.
Teams looking to bolster their secondary are likely to show a lot of interest in the former first-round choice from Louisville.

The New Orleans Saints are one of the clubs who might use some cornerback depth.

The Saints have a serious hole at the position after trading for Paulson Adebo and Marshon Lattimore in the past eight months.

They were in a bidding war for cornerback Charvarius Ward, who is now with the Colts, earlier in free agency but were unsuccessful; they instead signed Yiadom, who is Ward’s teammate. After realizing they needed to do something, the squad looked to the draft and made corner their first focus.

Despite their early disappointment, they were able to get Louisville’s Quincey Riley in the later rounds as a value pick. While he is healing from the neck injury that kept him out for much of last season, Asante Samuel Jr., a former cornerback for the Chargers, has visited the New Orleans Saints.

However, his situation is still up in the air. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey of the Dolphins has ties to the incoming defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, therefore he is also the subject of persistent trade rumors. The Saints now have another high-end option to explore with Alexander on the market.

Alexander has elite qualities at the position and is still in his prime at the age of 28. Alexander, like Lattimore, has struggled with availability; he has played in just 14 games in the last two seasons, which has led to questions about his durability.

However, Staley’s technique would work wonderfully with Alexander if he were healthy. He always plays a position higher on the field than his stature would indicate—that of an aggressive and jittery zone corner.

The Saints can afford to fight for his services with their cap space of about $28.7 million.
A defense that is changing could gain a lot from getting a top cornerback.
The only question now is how fast the Saints will try to get one.
